NEWPORT FISH DERBY RULES AND REGULATIONS!
RULES AND REGULATIONS
- THIS IS A WEEKLY FISHING DERBY
- ANGLERS MUST BUY A TICKET EACH DAY THEY INTEND TO FISH
- DERBY RUNS MONDAY SUNRISE TILL SUNDAY SUNDOWN
- WINNING PRIZE DETERMEND BY EACH WEEKS WINNING FISH
- FISH ARE WEIGHED DAILY
- LEADERBOARDS WILL BE UPDATED DAILY
- DERBY RUNS FROM FEBRUARY THROUGH NOVEMBER
- FISHING STARTS AT SUNRISE & ENDS AT SUNSET DAILY
- All fish must be taken on sport tackle only.
- Tickets must be purchased online at NewportFishDerby.com or designated locations .
- Derby tickets are $25 per-person, valid only for the day of purchase, each ticket is limited to one species of fish and must be purchased by 10 AM to be eligible for that day of fishing. Fish must be caught on the date indicated on the Registration and Receipt.
- Anglers fishing overnight must register a derby ticket for each day of fishing.
- Anglers must comply with Federal and State Fish and Wildlife regulations.
- In the event of inclement weather and unable to fish, tickets are refundable or may be exchanged for another ticket to be used at a later date. Tickets must be exchanged on the same day of the canceled trip by 10:00 AM.
- Participating anglers must fish from a vessel that departs from and returns to the Yaquina Bay on the same voyage.
- The following are not eligible for derby participation: employees or owners of a charter company and all employees of the Newport Fish Derby .
- All fish must be caught in open ocean (NO COMPETITION IN RIVERS LAKES BAYS OR ESTUARIES)
10. Tournament Headquarters and Weigh-in Area will be at Yaquina Bay Charters located at the top of Ramp in South Beach Harbor, Newport Oregon.
11. If Newport Fish Derby is closed and you are on private boat and have a contending fish to weigh, contact Dustin Ryan or Travis Kirwan (808) 758-1389 or (503) 577-3485 to notify them that a fish needs to be weighed.
12. All fish eligible must be intact, not mutilated or adulterated in any way.(winning fish will be gutted on site).
13. All entries and awarding of prizes are subject to review and final determination by the Newport Fish Derby Coordinator or the Executive Director. All contending fish will be gutted and filleted by a Newport Fish Derby representative. Violation of any rule will disqualify the contestant.
14. The Newport Fish Derby reserves the right to photograph all derby entrants, reproduce any photographs for publicity purposes, and retain all photo rights.
15. All prize winners are responsible for all taxes & fees associated with prize winnings. Any prize over $1000 a W-9 forms are required for all winners.
16. Prize claims for all entrants: If after more than 45 days following the derby, and a prize is not claimed, the Newport Fish Derby Committee shall conduct a review from the non-winning tickets to determine a new prize winner.
17. ALL fish entries with a derby ticket must be brought in and/or weighed before sundown, the fish must be brought in on the day fish is caught by the angler, angler must depart from and return to the Yaquina Bay Harbor. Participating anglers must be accompanied by a witness (prefer Captain or deckhand, if no witnesses are present captains can self certify) to testify that the fish was caught in accordance with official derby rules. Anglers entering and weighing fish at Derby Headquarters must complete all official forms. Weighing must be done according to standard derby procedure and certified by a weigh-in official.
18. Only 1 fish may be entered per day, per person, per species.
19. Entrants for the prize must collect winnings either in person or
send an email to Newportfishderby@gmail.com with the angler’s name, date of the catch and copy of ticket along with winning I.D. # provided by Newport Fish Derby Representative including registration, charter boat or captain’s name.
The angler’s winning ticket must be signed by the captain, deckhand or witness verifying that a fish caught , measured , inspected and weighed by a representative of Newport Fish Derby (cell phone picture as proof) was caught on the day the ticket was purchased.
20. Prizes: The winning angler in the Newport Fish Derby prize wins a percentage of the total Derby entries for that week. All other proceeds of Derby will help local families in fishing communities.
REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES: Anglers MUST ask for refund by 10 am on day of purchase.
